Cute Mother's Day Craft

I was in the library the when I saw a young kid coming out with this cute little flower bouquet. I knew right away what it was made of a new I had to make this craft with Mason for the special ladies in his life on Mother's Day. 


Here's what you'll need: 

• Bendy Straws or straight straws 
• Paint Brush 
• Egg Carton
• White Paper or Construction Paper 
• Paint
• Cupcake Liners
• Toilet Paper Roll 
• Scissors
• Tape

The great thing about this craft is there's so many different options. For example we used a cardboard egg carton because that's what we had but you can also use the Styrofoam egg cartons and since those can sometimes be colored you won't even need paint! You could also use all cupcake liners especially if you have multicolored ones! 

The first thing I did was take my toilet paper roll and cover it with white card stock. I also created a bottom with the paper. I used tape to secure it onto the roll. 

*Note: I want to apologize right off the bat for the quality of the pictures. I didn't have my flash on apparently and even though the pictures looked fine on my camera they didn't look good on my computer. And unfortunately the crafts are already distributed so I can't retake the pictures!* 

Hindsight being 20/20--I would have let Mason color on the white paper to decorate the outside! 

The cupcake liners are the easiest "flower" to make! 

Then you slip the straw {this one can easily be a straight straw if you don't have a bendy straw} through the two slits you made like this: 

The egg carton eggs take a little more finesse if you want them to really look like flowers. First you want to cut the egg cartons so each individual egg holder is by itself. 

Then you want to even out the top. 

Once the top is even you can cut around the edge to create different designs! Like this one: 

Once you have all your flowers created it's time to paint them! 

Once the flowers are dry you take the end of a scissor and slowly poke a hole in the center like this. I did it putting the point in the center and twisting it back and forth until it broke through the center!  

Then you take your bendy straw and insert it into the hole: 

Repeat with the rest of the "flowers" until you have a nice little bouquet of flowers to put in your vase! 

You can cut the the straws on the bottom to make the flowers different lengths and you can cut the straw right above the bendy part {after you put the flower on} to make it look even better! I used a straight straw for one of the flowers too because I liked the way it looked better! 

In case you were wondering, Mason didn't/couldn't help too much with this project he was much to young for it! I think it would be best for kids who are older and they would still need to get help from Mom or Dad because of the scissors and painting!
