Daydreaming: Franchise or Starting Fresh?

I remember about a year ago a company was hosting a giveaway to one lucky person who would become the proud owners of a franchaise. They would be set up with the building and a years worth of supplies to make everything easier to run, or at least that's how I remember it and no I have no idea who was giving it away, I want to say it's for a donut shop but I really don't remember.

It got me thinking about what it would be like to run your own business and more specifically what it would be like to run a franchise. I know for sure that one day I would LOVE to own my own business. I love the idea of being able to work for myself because then my success or failure depends soley on me which I think would make me work even harder. Back in college I set up this entire idea for the cutest little coffeshop/bakery to be opened in my hometown where I thought it would do fantastically since we have NOTHING like what I had been imaging there. I STILL would love to open something up like that but a franchise also sounds intersting. I like that you already have a name/brand that people are semi familiar with. So they know what to expect but I don't like the idea of having to conform to one standard because even though it would be *my* business I wouldn't be able to really make it my own!

But there are absolutely perks to owning a franchise, I think that potentially it could be much easier to do and it's obvious that their are many that have been successful! I think if I could own any fanchise I would probably go with Dunkin Donuts mainly because I LOVE their coffee and I don't see coffee every going out of style!
