How To Make Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Maker: Part 1
I LOVE ice cream but I don't always have it on hand and unfortunately I don't have an ice cream maker although it's totally on my list of must have kitchen gadgets I don't really need. Two years ago in my quest to have some ice cream despite the fact that I didn't have ice cream lead me to look around and see what I had that could potentially make ice cream. I had just made some Alfredo sauce so I had some whipping cream and that's when it occurred to me. I could make ice cream with whipping cream.
When I was younger my grandmother always used to have Reddi Whip in her house and I would often spray some into a bowl and freeze it! So I was fairly certain that if I whipped the whipping cream and froze it I would get the same effect and guess what? I was right :)
This doesn't make instant ice cream because you have to wait for it to freeze but it does make yummy ice cream and all you need is whipping cream, sugar and whatever you want to flavor it with i.e. mint, vanilla, chocolate syrup, Chocolate chips etc!
The first thing you want to do is whip the cream until it has barely soft peaks, like the picture shows, I say barely soft peaks because you're going to mix in your other ingredients and you don't want to over beat it when you do!
I added sugar, vanilla, and chocolate chips first!
Then I added peanut butter!
When everything was mixed I put it in a bowl and smoothed it out!
Then I covered it with plastic wrap and stuck it in the freezer!
And a couple of hours later it was frozen and ready to eat!
It was DELICIOUS! I will warn you that it doesn't have the same exact consistency as ice cream especially if you use peanut butter.
I think the kids will have a blast making this with you though especially because they can add their own ingredients! Imagine what they'll come up with!
So what flavor are you going to make?
