The Hunger Games Trilogy Review & Thoughts

Synopsis

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival.

Spoiler Alert: If you haven't read any of these books yet I suggests you stop here.

I really really enjoyed this book. I read it in about two days and once we actually got to the Hunger Games I literally could not put it down. However I do wish that she would have developed the "love triangle" a littler deeper. I don't think we get to know Gale the way we know Peeta so it's hard to be anything but Team Peeta! We also see Katniss constantly confused about who she's in love with if either of them although she seems to choose Gale by this point.

Synopsis

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

I didn't see another Hunger Games coming although I should have known. When the new head game maker showed Katniss his watch I knew right away that he was an ally. I can't comprehend why Katniss didn't realize this even after knowing that the MockingJay had become a symbol of the rebellion. Sometimes she's a little too dense for my liking. It's weird because I like her but at the same time I don't. While she's physically stronger and much more likable than other female literary characters as of late {ahem Bella Swan} her constant "I have no idea the effect I have on people" is KILLING ME.

Synopsis

The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.
Who do they think should pay for the unrest?
Katniss Everdeen.

I hate to say it but I was disappointed. I was disappointed about what they did to Peeta. I was disappointed with the way Gale's character developed, I was disappointed with Finnick's death and with Prim's but I was also just disappointed with the ending in general.  @AnnieUS13 said it best when she said it seemed like the author [Suzanne Collins] didn't feel like writing any more. I do believe that it was District 13 who killed all the children in front of Snow's house. I hate to say it but I believe President Snow on that. I think President Coin was sneaky from the beginning and she always rubbed me the wrong way. I'm glad that Katniss killed her. I only wish that Prim would have made it out alive. I was so disappointed in Gale. I don't understand him really, he was SOOO in love with Katniss yet he just leaves and takes a job in District 2? It just seems weird to me. But I think that also proves that District 13 was the one who sent the parachutes to the children they both knew it and even though Gale had nothing to do with the actual bombing it was still his idea, his lack of compassion that gave District 13 the idea. I'm glad that she ends up with Peeta. I was absolutely Teem Peeta although I don't think you have much choice with the lack of character development of Gale at least as far as the loving Katniss storyline went. But I just feel like we were cheated. We were cheated out of knowing if Katniss really did love Peeta or if because Gale left she just felt like she needed to be with him. I feel cheated that we didn't get to see a Peeta/Katniss wedding and I just felt like the whole ending was too abrupt for my liking.

Have you read The Hunger Games Trilogy yet? What did you think?
